Mamma Mia is a musical about a 1 mother, 1 daughter and three possible fathers. The musical dramatizes wedding chaos and confusion as the daughter tries to find her true father to “give her away at the wedding”.
If you are a fan of the music of ABBA, you’ll find that despite the story, the musical is more of a tribute to ABBA’s music with some funny moments. The play’s title comes from the band’s 1975 hit by the same name. The musical includes such hits as “Dancing Queen”, “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “Take a Chance on Me”, “Thank You for the Music”, “Money, Money, Money”, “The Winner Takes It All”, and “SOS”.
The original musical, written by British playwright Catherine Johnson opened in London’s West End at the Prince Edward Theatre on April 6, 1999. The play opened on Broadway in 2001 and closed in 2015, making it the 7th longest running play in Broadway history.
