Whether you’re a golfer, a parade watcher or someone who enjoys contests, your day in Oak Lawn can be filled with action tomorrow. At night, one of the best fireworks shows in the southwest suburbs lights up H.L. Richards and the entire neighborhood.
The Oak Lawn Park District’s Annual 4th of July Four-Person Golf Scramble is held on Thursday, July 4th with a shotgun start of 7:30am.
Entry forms and the fee were to be received at Stony Creek by July 1st, so you may be out of luck if you didn’t register.
While you may not be able to golf, you can attend the Village of Oak Lawn’s Annual Fourth of July Parade. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at 95th Street and 51st Avenue and travels west on 95th Street to 55th Ct. The parade always features local politicians and sometimes surprises the kids with favorites like Benny the Bull, Southpaw, or Tommy Hawk, representing the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox or Chicago Blackhawks.
The politicians will try to curry favor with future voters by tossing candy in the direction of the little parade watchers.
Oak Lawn Park District is celebrating its 75th Anniversary and this year will be offering free admission to the Memorial Park celebration at 102nd and Major Avenue.
Family activities to please the children of all ages include a treasure hunt, watermelon eating contests for adults and children, eating contests, a fishing derby and various carnival games.
The Stony Creek Golf Course has a mini-golf tournament and longest drive contest scheduled. If you didn’t like the food trucks, you can enjoy the food and drink in the dining room.
The night ends with a spectacular fireworks show at H.L. Richards at 9 p.m. However, the gates open at 6 p.m. and musical entertainment is provided. The fireworks are jointly sponsored by the Oak Lawn Park District and the Village of Oak Lawn.
