Oak Lawn’s 24th Annual Fall on the Green Festival starts today and continues the entire weekend through Sunday September 9th.
The local festival, which opens its proverbial doors at 6 p.m. tonight, offers good food, entertainment, games and vendors on the north side of 95th and Cook Avenue.
As always, admission is free and is open to Oak Lawn residents and anyone who wants to celebrate like an Oak Lawn resident. Unless you’re invited into the VIP tent, you will have to pay for your own food and drinks but parking is free.
The “VIP Tent” has been controversial since the day it started because the village officials take tickets and disburse those tickets to friends and family members, setting up Oak Lawn’s own version of the one percent. Free food and drinks are provided to those in the VIP tent.
You don’t have to be a “VIP” to witness the entertainment which includes Some of the entertainment scheduled to appear are area favorites including: The Ron Burgundy’s on Friday night, Pineapple Tonic, The Four C Notes, and American English, on Saturday, and Winner, Shannon Baker, and Motown Nation on Sunday.
The fest also features the 3rd Annual Battle of the Bands on Friday night. The winner of that event will then perform on Sunday on the Main Stage at 11:00AM.
If you aren’t a “Band Person”, you can still have fun at the fest by playing bingo, sampling local cuisine, competing in Trivia contests or shopping for arts and crafts. The local food includes pizza, tacos, Italian sausage, lobster rolls, corn dogs, Italian ice, pot roast sandwiches, hot dogs, cheese curds, and boneless wings.
Village officials are assuring everyone that this is a “kid friendly” event. There will be many activities for children including inflatables, crafts, Wrecking Ball, Wipe Out, Zip Line and so much more! New this year Micro-Reality Stock Car Racing on Saturday & Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
